Utilizing a backup power supply to guarantee the fire alarm system is consistently reliable

As we experienced this past winter in Texas and as we've seen in many other instances, extreme weather and increased demand on the power system can be the result of loss of primary power to your facility in the form of power outages or rolling blackouts. A backup power source is provided for all fire alarm systems so that they can keep working if the primary power source fails. The secondary power must be constructed in accordance with the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code®, also known as NFPA 72®, as well as how it must be inspected, tested, and maintained to ensure that it will be operational when it is most needed. A fault signal will be broadcast by the fire alarm system if there is a problem with the power source or charging system, ensuring that the secondary power supply is always available. The fire alarm system is capable of monitoring for voltage as well as the battery charging system.

To test and ensure that all components of the fire system are functional and in compliance with NFPA 72 and NEC code, United Fire & Security may undertake annual or semiannual inspections. Contact us at any time by dialing 1-877-347-3956.
